KARACHI, March 15: In a move to rationalise the centralised evaluation system, all educational boards in Sindh will simultaneously conduct the higher secondary school certificate annual examinations-2010 and assess the answer scripts.
The Class XI and XII exams scheduled to begin on April 27 would be conducted in the morning and afternoon shifts, Chairman of the Sindh educational boards’ committee of chairmen Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai said.
Referring to the centralised evaluation system, he said that the Sindh educational boards’ committee of chairmen with a view to ensuring that results of all the exams were compiled within the stipulated period decided to get the answer scripts of all the subjects assessed simultaneously.
He said the move aimed at rationalising the centralised evaluation system would not only help prepare the results within the stipulated time but would also ensure that new academic sessions of universities and professional colleges begin on time.
More than 600,000 candidates, including around 350,000 enrolled with the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), would take the exams across the province, he said.
Prof Zai said all papers of both classes would be set on the new pattern which was introduced for Class XI exams last year. He added that the model papers had been provided to all educational institutions last year in this regard.
Giving marks-wise detail of the new pattern of papers, Prof Zai said that each theory paper of 100 marks would have 20 per cent objective-type questions, 50pc questions requiring short answers and 30pc descriptive questions. He added that the practical exams would carry 15 marks, instead of 25 marks.
He said he had separate meetings with all the chairmen and controllers of examinations who agreed that not only the HSC annual examinations-2010 should commence on April 27 across the province at once but also the schedule of papers should remain the same. However, he added, the exams conducted by the BIEK might have a different schedule. He explained this way candidates enrolled with all educational boards, except the BIEK, would take the paper of same subject the same day.
For those enrolled with the BIEK, he said that though their exams would also begin on April 27, the order of papers might differ from that of other educational boards. He explained that it was so planned because a huge number of candidates were registered with the BIEK and their exams were conducted faculty-wise and in different phases to overcome the shortage of examination centres.
He also made it clear that the unsuccessful candidates and repeaters of Class XI and XII would have to take their examinations according to the new pattern of papers. Dawn
